The social impact of art. Turin through the eyes of artists

Description

For the third consecutive year Artissima and Torino Social Impact have organized the Torino Social Impact Art Award in collaboration with Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The objective of the project is to nurture rising talents with multicultural and migratory backgrounds. Focusing on the space occupied by multiculturalism in today’s society, the award sets out to propose new relationships and to open up unexpected scenarios through the languages and perspectives of the winning artists.

As a potential ally and driver of social innovation, art can offer unexpected visions capable of breaking down social constructs such as those of gender, or those channelled by the dominant religions, also granting a voice to those who run the risk of being excluded from contemporary system of production.

Selected by the Committee of “Torino Social Impact Art Award”, the two winners of the third edition of the initiative – Federico Pozuelo and Natália Trejbalová – were welcomed for a stay in Turin, at Combo, to make two video works inspired by the theme of the award in 2022, Rebellions and rebirths: the creative potential of confrontation, an invitation to ponder the theme of social conflict in its various manifestations and latent forms.

The videos produced during the residency are shown in a special space during Artissima 2022.

Speakers: FEDERICO POZUELO and NATÁLIA TREJBALOVÁ (Winning Artists), GUIDO BOLATTO (Secretary General, Camera di Commercio di Torino), FRANCESCA GAMBETTA (Head of Missione Creare Attrattività, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo), MATTEO MOTTIN and RAMONA PONZINI (Founders of the art project Treti Galaxie and tutors of the third edition of the prize)
