Paul Thorel Foundation introduce itself

The Paul Thorel Foundation was created in 2014 in Naples, Italy, by the Italian-French artist himself, who was active from the mid 1970s until his death in 2020, and moved there in 1994. Initially, its main activity was the re-organization of the artist’s archives and the restoration of his earlier works. Two years after his passing, the board of the Foundation recounts his legacy in a world buffeted by digital images and launches its new artistic program, inspired by his artistic work between Naples and the two new venues of the Foundation, the islands of Panarea – located in Italy’s Aeolian archipelago – and Hydra, Greece. The talk is also the occasion to announce the Paul Thorel Prize in collaboration with Gallerie d’Italia of Intesa San Paolo. The annual prize will launch in 2023 and is bestowed on Italian artists or artist collectives without any age limit. Moreover, the selection committee includes some of the most influential critical voices – both curators and editors – of the Italian contemporary art landscape.

Speakers:  ANTONIO CARLONI (Vice-director Gallerie d’Italia – Torino Intesa Sanpaolo), GUIDO COSTA (President of the board Paul Thorel Foundation Napoli), ANTONIO DE VITA (Member of the board Paul Thorel Foundation Napoli), SARA DOLFI AGOSTINI (Curator and coordinator of the catalogue raisonné, Paul Thorel Foundation Napoli), RHIANNON PICKLES (Member of the board Paul Thorel Foundation Napoli)
