EventEredi Boggiano. History as Artistic Action

Eredi Boggiano. History as Artistic Action

Launch of the artist’s book Eredi Boggiano (Quodlibet, 2022), which is part of the second of the Futile Cycles, a series of hybrid works in which Cristiano Berti discovers similarities and distances between historical research and artistic research. Each of these works includes the publication of an artist’s book in the form of a historical essay. The first of these volumes, entitled Gaggini. Le Alpi e il Tropico del Cancro, was published by Quodlibet in 2017.

At the center of the artist’s new investigation is the story of a man who emigrated to Cuba at the end of the eighteenth century, and even more of the intangible legacy formed on the island by the spread of his surname, which time has transformed from a mark of oppression to a sign of identity.

Reconstructing the conceptual framework in which Eredi Boggiano‘s research took place, the author and semiologist Ugo Castagnotto discuss the relationship between contemporary art and the past and the role of historical memory in the construction of identity.

Project supported by the Italian Council (10th edition, 2021), program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

Speakers: CRISTIANO BERTI (Visual artist) and UGO CASTAGNOTTO (Semiologist)
